The month of December brings about some good news after enjoying the Diwali holidays because the birth of Jesus Christ falls in this month. Christmas is the only big festival which is celebrated with great pomp and show worldwide on 25th December. This celebration merges into the celebration of New Year and makes it more fun-filled and enjoyable. Especially children enjoy Christmas very much due to most of the Schools remains closed for a winter vacation in the World. Christmas is also known as “Bada Din” (Big Day) in India because after this day onward duration of days starts to increase and the duration of night decreases. Christmas also abbreviated as Xmas. The letter “X” comes from the Greek letter “Chi” the first letter in the Greek word for Christ and the suffix “mas” comes from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass.
Many schools organize some special programs or annual function on this occasion in
which students of all classes take part and shows their performances and
talents. Students are trained to perform plays, Solo Dance, Group Dance and
some other activities.
Gospel and carols are the main attraction of this festival performed by Children which spread the teachings of Christ among all.

IMPORTANCE OF XMAS
Christmas
is the festival associated with the Christian community but celebrated by all religions
worldwide as the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, the son of GOD. It is
believed that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of GOD on earth. So Christmas is
celebrated on 25th December every year to remember the teaching of Jesus
Christ.
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
Christmas
celebrated with love and peace worldwide. It commemorates and celebrates the
birth of Jesus Christ and gives a message to all peoples to live with love and
peace. To mark the occasion, peoples decorate their houses with star lights,
Christmas tree and prepare delicious cake, sweets etc. Peoples visit the church
for praying the GOD and lit the candles there and pray for the well being of all
human being. On this day peoples
exchange gifts among their near and dear one and wish “Merry Christmas” to
them.
It is an advent of enjoyment that brings the New Year with positive vibration and fills the air with happiness. The main objective of this festival is to spread the love, peace and the teachings of GOD in the world. The New Year starts their journey with this merriment and gives the message of harmony.
Earlier
peoples used to send Greeting Cards well before the start of Christmas to wish
their loved ones. But now, peoples wish their near-dear one through WhatsApp
messages, Facebook, SMS and Emails.
CHRISTMAS CANDLES
Candles are the most attractive items during Christmas. Candles lit on Christmas symbolizing Christ, the light of the world. Christmas candles are found in all colour, shapes, sizes & scents. Candles signify prayer, love, passions and hope. A votive candle or prayer candle is a small candle, typically burnt in a religious ceremony. Fragrances of burning candles make the environment of home & church more religious and pious.
TECHNOLOGY AND CHRISTMAS
The
technology has brought some advantage as well as some disadvantage too. Now, we
can chat, SMS, phone and even video call to see and wish our near & dear
one in a jiffy. On the other hand our dependency on these gadgets making us little
sluggish too. These smart ways are good but not always; when we get sufficient
time, we have to wish or greet our close friends and relatives in person to
feel that love and enjoyment. These days are really great days to share our
experience with our near and dear one and associating ourselves with the festival
through some means is really enjoyable and stress buster too.
PLUM CAKE –A SPECIALTY OF CHRISTMAS
Every festival is incomplete, without talking about the food associated with it. Xmas
is also one of the great festivals that is associated with a different type of
food but the plum cake is the speciality of this festival. Children or the
adult, all enjoy this very much. Christmas plum cakes are the wonderful
sweets available during Christmas which is made of dried fruits, plums, rum and
fresh fruits with a tempting aroma. The term "plum" actually referred
to prunes, raisins or grapes. It also made by using “RUM” and that why it is called

Children
hang Christmas stocking on tree to get some return gifts from “Santa Claus”. A
Christmas stocking is a bag like a sock to put small coins, candy, toys and other
tiny items in it. These tiny items of stocking called Stocking fillers. Children believe that Santa will come and fill the stocking
with these gifts.
The
markets look vibrant as decorated artistically. In Malls Christmas trees are
decorated to enhance the beauty of festival and allure the buyers to visit
there. Markets are full of Christmas related goods everywhere; you can see the
dresses of Santa, Posters, Greeting Cards etc. There is great hustle & bustle
on the eve of Christmas in the market.

festival is nothing without talking about mythical Figure Santa Claus. The old
father figure, which is quite famous among children, brings toys, presents or
money to good children everywhere. He is
known by many names worldwide. , I have mentioned the few one.

ECONOMIC VALUE OF CHRISTMAS
Peoples
buy lot of items related to Christmas like Santa Claus dresses, toys, sweets,
chocolates, gift packs and decorative items etc. In this way Christmas gives
economic enhancement to businesses also.
Nowadays,
peoples do online shopping to buy Christmas related things which is really “Economic Booster” dose for a company as well as
country. This is a wonderful way of getting things without actually going to
market if you have paucity of time. But if time is not the limit then enjoy the beauty of
this festival through Market also.
Before this day celebration there is great
rush in the market. Each nook and corner of the famous markets are decorated in a
great way. Many peoples get their livelihood through these works. So, we are
not celebrating the festival only; on the other hand, these festivals are
multi-tasking facility of GOD who cares about their children.
SOME IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT CHRISTMAS
- The character of Santa Claus is based on St. Nicholas.
- Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer is the ninth reindeer who pulls Santa's sledge. The other eight reindeers are - Cupid, Dancer, Comet, Dunder, Vixen, Dasher, Prancer and Blixem.
- Germany started the tradition of decorating Christmas tree.
- Boxing Day is observed on 26th December each year. It is known by many names like in South Africa - "Day of Goodwill" ,in Ireland -"Saint Stevens Day" and in other continental European Countries as "Second Christmas Day". Actually, it is a day of giving to the less fortunate.
- Christmas Tree is a allusive of birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
MY OWN EXPERIENCE ABOUT CHRISTMAS
As
a human being I love to celebrate the festival very much. I reside near a
School and generally we hear about the preparation of students in the Morning.
It fills the air with positive vibes around us and we really feel good at the start
of the day.
Last
year, I had gone to a Mall to celebrate this festival along with my nephew. It
was a wonderful experience at all. We had seen a really Big Christmas tree there.
We had taken some Snaps their too. After
seeing the various program organized to celebrate Christmas then we had taken
some snacks and meal there and enjoy the festival a lot. We had bought a packet of plum cake and share
with our beloved ones at home.
On
writing this article, I recalled an event on the occasion of Christmas in my
previous Company. There was a party in which there was a fun activity where we
had to recognize the guy who was in the attire of Santa Claus. It was a fun-loving and cheerful event, but confusing. All had enjoyed this activity very
much. Everyone was trying to identify the person but really very difficult as
the guy was a new employee. Also, there was a gift on successfully recognizing
the person in the attire of Santa Claus so everyone was trying to check their
luck. Apart from this, the guy had entertained all of us through funny
activities and distracted the attention of peoples to hide his identity. It was really very enjoyable time. Later on,
someone had recognized him and won the gift. But the memory of this activity is
still alive in my mind.
REAL WAY OF CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS
The
soul of every festival is to spread love, peace and teachings of GOD but
without helping the poor and needy we can’t achieve that satisfaction.
This
is really good part of every festival that lots of charity is done by peoples
for the welfare of needy one. Some
Peoples distribute food, sweets, toys and clothes to needy one and celebrate
this festival in a different way.
Festivals are really stress busters.
They not only revive us to face the hardship of life bravely but also motivate also to enjoy
the life to the fullest.
